Is there something in the movies [in 2022]? The answer is yes. Even though the cinemas, at the moment, are closed in a lot of countries, we will still have a promising film year to look forward to. So, here are some of my most anticipated films of 2022.

Still from Kenneth Branagh’s film Belfast

Belfast
Kenneth Branagh’s semi-biographical film also made it to my list last year, but even though Belfast premiered in a few countries in 2021, it is still to be released in other parts of the world, including The UK and Denmark. The film is packed with emotional scenes and charming moments according to several reviews, and is already predicted great succes in the upcoming award year. The story follows a working-class family living in Belfast in the late 1960’s, and explores the childhood of a young boy in a tumultuous time.

Director: Kenneth Branagh

Still from Dear Zoe

Dear Zoe
Based on the novel, of the same name, by Phillip Beard Dear Zoe follows the 15-year-old Tess dealing with the heartbreaking and tragic loss of her sister. I am excited to see this award-winning novel come to the screen with Sadie Zink as the the young Tess DeNunzio.

Olivia Wilde, Director of Don’t Worry Darling

Don’t Worry Darling
This American psychological film is set in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950’s, and tells the story of a housewife who begins to question her own sanity, while her husband are keeping secrets. For a long time I have been a huge fan of Olivia Wilde’s work, both as an actress and especially as a director. And for this reason, among others, I am very excited to finally see Don’t Worry Darling come to live.

Director: Olivia Wilde
Starring: Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Douglas Smith and Gemma Chan.

Emma Mackey as Emily Brontë in the Upcoming film “Emily”

Emily
It is no secret that I have a true passion for stories set in the 19th century, and for biographical stories. This upcoming drama and biopic draws a portrait of the passionate English novelist and poet Emily Brontë, known for the classic novel “Wuthering Heights”.

Director: Frances O’Connor
Starring: Emma Mackey, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Alexandra Dowling, Fionn Whitehead and Gemma Jones.

Sebastian Stan & Daisy Edgar-Jones in Fresh

Fresh
Not much has been shared about this upcoming social-thriller. However I am excited about the casting as well as the few things we know about the plotline. Fresh is set out to be a story about the horrors of modern dating life seen through a young woman’s battle to survive her boyfriend’s unusual appetites.

Olivia Coleman in The Lost Daughter

The Lost Daughter
The Lost Daughter has already premiered in several countries in 2021, so why put it here? Because the film have not been released in Denmark yet. This psychological drama film is written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal based on Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name. About a woman’s vacation taking an unsettling turn when she begins to confront her past.

Zoe Kazan and Carrey Mulligan are both set to star in the upcoming film “She Said”

She Said
She Said unfold the story of New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, who helped launch the #Metoo movement by breaking the story of the Weinstein scandal. I think it is fair to say that this might be one of the films I look the most forward to in 2022. The story in itself is important to tell. I have great admiration of the cast. And the film will be directed by Maria Schrader, known for the German-American miniseries Unorthodox.

Director: Maria Schrader
Starring: Carey Mulligan, Zoe Kazan, Patricia Clarkson, Andre Braugher and Samantha Morton.

Florence Pugh in The Wonder

The Wonder
Last, but not least I have chosen another upcoming psychological thriller. The Wonder is set in the Irish Midlands in 1862, and tells a story of love pitted against evil. I mean, alone looking at this released picture of Florence Pugh, playing the character of the English nurse Lib Wright, has my full attention. And therefore I am only curious to learn more about this feature film.

Director: Sebastián Leilo
