My Most Anticipated TV Series of 2022

Each year we are blessed with new seasons of our favourite TV-series full of characters we know to cherish and love and whose adventures we happily follow along. Additionally, the new year brings us with the promise of new extraordinary, sometimes twisted tales which we are just as equally excited to experience. Here I have listed some of my most anticipated new TV series to debut during the forthcoming year.
- Daisy Jones & The Six (Amazon)
Based on a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six follows the rise of the rock band in the 1970s Los Angeles. Starring one of my all-time favourites, Riley Keough, the series promises to fulfil my love for music and TV alike. Starring: Riley Keough, Sebastian Chacon, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse and Josh Whitehouse.
Release date: Now March 3, 2023.
- The Fall of the House of Usher (Netflix)
This 8-episode mini horror series is based on the works of the late Edgar Allan Poe and will be directed by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) and Michael Fimognari. The filming is said to begin in January 2022, making it uncertain whether or not the series will debut in 2022. Nevertheless, my love for Poe’s work and interest in Flanagan’s earlier creations make this production one to keep my eyes on. Starring: Frank Langella, Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Mark Hamil, Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas and Annabeth Gish.
Release date: TBA (most likely end of 2022 or early 2023)
- House of the Dragon (HBO)
Back in 2018, I was eager to delve into the history of Targaryens with the novel Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, a book in which this new fantasy series House of the Dragon is based on. The series will bring to life complex characters and their magnificent dragons and promises us intriguing costumes as well as music composed by the one and only Ramin Djawadi. Starring: Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Rhys Ifans.
Release date: August 21, 2022.
- Inventing Anna (Netflix)
After making it my last year’s list, I am happy to have finally received a release date for this Netflix produced drama series. Based on New York Magazine article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People”, the series follows the life of Russian-born fraudster Anna Sorokin who stole the hearts and money of New York’s social scene. Starring: Julia Garner, Anna Chlumsky, Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox and Alexis Floyd.
Release date: February 11, 2022.
- The Last of Us (HBO)
Based on a 2013 video game with the same title, which stole my heart with its amazing soundtrack composed by Gustavo Santaolalla, this new HBO series makes it to my most anticipated series with its promise of post-apocalyptic scenery and critically acclaimed narrative plotline. Starring: Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey and Gabriel Luna.
Release date: Now January 15, 2023.
- The Lord of the Rings (Amazon)
Set in the Second Age of Middle-earth thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, this series has been on my watchlist since the first announcement back in 2017. While already ticking all my boxes, the latest development within the musical composition, possibly to be made by Howard Shore, makes this series arguably my most anticipated series of the year. Starring: Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, and Morfydd Clark, to name a few.
Release date: September 2, 2022.
- Love and Death (HBO)
Based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, who brutally murdered her friend Betty Gore with an axe, this miniseries is packed with an amazing cast and will hopefully provide insight into the reasonings of the brutal and notorious homicide. Starring: Elizabeth Olsen, Lily Rabe, Jesse Plemons and Patrick Fugit.

- The Witcher: Blood Origin (Netflix)
This new fantasy miniseries serves as a prequel to The Witcher and will introduce the creation of the first witcher and give more insight into the civilisation of the Elven. The series is perfectly timed to follow season 2 of The Witcher, which exceeded my expectations with much-needed character development. Starring: Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O’Fuarain, Jacob Collins-Levy, Sophia Brown, Dylan Moran, Mirren Mack and Lenny Henry.
Release date: December 25, 2022.
